Live more fully.
Know yourself more deeply.
Welcome
I’m Dr. Eric Bergemann, a Clinical Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice. My work sits at the intersection of clinical psychology, neuroscience, Buddhist psychology, somatic work, and contemplative practice.
I offer therapy sessions at my Atwater Village office and through online video sessions. I invite you to explore this site, learn more about my approach and reach out to discuss how I may be able to help with your concerns.
I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Before becoming a psychologist, I spent a decade working in finance—an experience that has greatly informed my perspective on the relationship between professional success and personal wellbeing.
Who I Work With
Children & Adolescents
Childhood comes with many challenges. I provide a safe, supportive space for young people to make sense of what they're experiencing. Common concerns include anxiety, family stress, behavioral challenges and the many difficulties of growing up.
College Students
The transition from adolescence to adulthood can be a disorienting time. From academic concerns to relationships and building identity, I work with college-age young adults to help them find their footing in the world.
Adults
I work with adults from all walks of life and a wide range of concerns. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, or a sense that something needs to change, therapy can help you slow down, reflect and discover a new way forward.
Couples
Whether you're navigating conflict, disconnection, or a significant transition, I can help. Through the PACT model of couples therapy, you’ll learn to recognize each other’s emotional distress and respond in ways that build safety and trust.
Families
Families are systems. When one part of the system is struggling, everyone is affected. I work with families to improve communication, repair ruptures, and build stronger connections across generations.
My Approach
I view psychotherapy as a collaborative effort to help you better understand your own mind and its habitual patterns. But conscious understanding only goes so far. Lasting change requires a deeper, body-based knowing—one that can emerge within the context of a safe, attuned relationship.
Because we are complex human beings, I work holistically, attending to the mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and relational dimensions of who you are. My work draws on several complementary frameworks, including psychodynamic therapy, somatic work, interpersonal neurobiology, and mindfulness practice.
I also integrate Buddhist psychology and contemplative practices into my work when they are a good fit. These traditions offer profound tools for developing compassion, equanimity, and a more spacious relationship with one’s own experience.
Common Issues I Treat
I work with a wide range of concerns. Here are some of the most common:
Anxiety
Persistent worry, panic, social anxiety, and the stress that accumulates when life feels unmanageable.
Depression
Low mood, loss of motivation, and the quiet withdrawal from things that once felt meaningful.
Relationship & Couples Issues
Communication difficulties, conflict, disconnection, infidelity, and navigating major life transitions as a couple.
Trauma
The lasting effects of adverse experiences, addressed through evidence-based somatic and attachment-focused approaches.
Life Transitions
Career changes, divorce, loss, identity shifts, and the disorientation that can accompany any major change.
Addiction
Problematic relationships with substances or behaviors, explored with compassion and without judgment.
Family Conflict
Tensions between family members, parenting challenges, and the relational ruptures that can develop over time.
Identity & Self-Esteem
Questions of who you are, what you value, and how to live in greater alignment with your own sense of self.
